Support
Second Kick Maps works fully offline and keeps all your data on your device. Most questions are answered below; the same help lives inside the app under Settings → Help & Support.
Frequently asked
How do I use the app with no signal?
Before you leave service, open Tools → Offline maps and grab a state or a custom-drawn area. Downloaded maps, search, and tap-to-identify all work in airplane mode.
Does recording keep running with the screen off?
Yes. Start recording and lock the phone — your track keeps recording in the background. If the phone dies or the app is closed mid-ride, the recording is recovered automatically the next time you open the app.
How do I mark a waypoint by voice?
Say “Hey Siri, mark a waypoint in Second Kick Maps” — or name the type, like “mark a hazard in Second Kick Maps.” It works with no signal, including airplane mode. Finish the sentence with in Second Kick Maps; “mark a waypoint” on its own isn't enough for Siri. For capture with the screen off, allow Always location.
Siri says “Sorry, I don't understand” — how do I fix it?
iOS asks once whether to turn on Second Kick Maps shortcuts, and that prompt is easy to dismiss. Until you say yes, every phrase fails with no explanation. Open the Shortcuts app, find Second Kick Maps under App Shortcuts and make sure they're switched on — or check Settings → Apps → Second Kick Maps. Then make sure the phrase ends with in Second Kick Maps. It isn't a signal problem: the commands work in airplane mode once they're on. See the voice guide.
Can I import routes from another app or a friend?
Yes — open a GPX, GeoJSON, KML, or KMZ file into Second Kick Maps (from Files, Messages, or another app) and review it before saving. Your data comes over with its colors, routes, and icons. You can also export your own data as GPX to share back. See the import guide.
Can one route carry two ways round a hard section?
Yes — a route can carry options: an out-and-back spur, or a fork with the technical line on one side and the bypass on the other. Add them while you're drawing the route with the branch button in the plan bar, or later from the route's OPTIONS card, then pick which ones you're riding on the day. Distance, climb and the fuel verdict recompose with every choice. See the route options guide.
How do I move everything to a new phone?
Tools → Import & export → Export all data writes one backup file with every waypoint, track, trip, photo, and setting. On the new phone, import that file to restore it all. Re-importing the same backup is safe — it merges instead of making duplicates.
How do I change miles to kilometers, or the coordinate format?
Settings → Units and Coordinates. Coordinates can be decimal, DMS, or UTM.
